It's got something to do with where the thumb joins my wrist but its in the arm/ wristy bit...
Anyone know what I'm rattling on about?!

It`s a bad place to have a hurty thing, that - I broke the bone at the base of my thumb many moons ago while playing hockey, and it took absolutely ages to heal. I remember being unable to do much for myself, as it was my right hand. This was pre-RA of course, when running around chasing a hockey ball was something I did for fun!

I`d get it checked, in case it needs treatment.

Hmmm it's still ouchy,
Things have got so desperate I'm thinking about splints again.

I'm going to see the nurse at the gp and I might mention it, trouble is I hate making a fuss. There's nothing any of them can do anyway

I have a lot of problems with the tendons in my wrists and I'm wondering if that might be the problem here as the pain goes up your arm. I do find the splints help a lot especially when I'm at work or going shopping. You're not making a fuss by going to the GP about this. You have so much to deal with and if this can be made to feel a little better then that's a good thing. Anything that helps the hands makes such a big difference overall as we use them so much. Even going on the computer puts strain on the hands, wrists, arms and fingers. I got my splints from the OT at the hospital. I have to wash them after each day at work so they's got really scruffy and bobbly but they do the trick. I probably have around 8 pairs now and wouldn't be without them. If I don't wear them the tendons get so painful. xx

Hi Jenni

Have you any resting splints? They are moulded to your shape and go from the tips of your fingers and almost up to your elbow - strapped on with velcro. There's a slot for your thumb too. Your hand, wrist, fingers and thumb can't move much at all. Bit like strapping a skateboard to your arm but pretty effective.

When my hands etc are playing up I wear one (can only wear one at a time for health & safety). Think that may help with your thumb pain.
